Personal| Thoughts - Back to Basics

When I started blogging in 2011, it was my opportunity to share my thoughts, views and perspective with the world. My main goal was to write. Write, write and write some more. Write about my experiences as a fashion-loving-twenty-something (then) mother of one finding her way in life; documenting the good, the bad and the ugly. Writing was something I did effortlessly and somewhat therapeutically, so having a blog that was full of witty words was a no-brainer.
Then something happened. I was thrust into the world of bloggersphere, surrounded by all these blogs, featuring ridiculously beautiful bloggers and their perfect sense of style and equally perfect blogs. My main reason for blogging in the first place got lost somewhere whilst posing and pouting for outfit posts.
Don't get me wrong, I love doing outfit posts and I love the whole fashion element of my blog, I guess what I'm trying to say is: I'm going to start doing more of what I initially set out to do.
So if you start to see more words and less pictures, don't be alarmed. I called the blog Bits of This and That for a reason.
In short, I hope you'll enjoy the new content and if you don't, I guess there's nothing I can do about that lol!

OOTD| Old Faithful

Jacket: H&M
Dress: Asos
Trainers: Nike via Office
Bag: DKNY via House of Fraser

If there is one item of clothing that is definitely worth splurging on, it's the leather biker. I've had many faux versions but none of them can quite compare to the real deal. This H&M one has been in my possession for over a year, and words cannot describe just how much I love it. I love everything about it; the silver hardware; the padded detail; the boxy fit; everything about it is pure perfection lol!
I paired it with quite a sexy khaki number which I wanted to tone down since I was only popping to my local supermarket. I'm not into the bombshell look - for everyday errands that is, so the added biker and trainers combo made it less va va voom, if you get my drift.

Onto my old faithful DKNY across the body bag; I bought it in my first year of uni (10 years ago you know! Well...almost) and at the time it was the most expensive thing I'd ever bought myself. Oh how times have changed! Its classic style and simple shape go with pretty much everything. It's seen me through my hardcore raving days; late night library visits; both pregnancies; carrying my newborn essentials etc... And still it's remained in decent condition. So here's to another 10 years dear friend!

OOTD| Leather Denim Pony

Jacket: George @ Asda
Vest: Primark
Skirt: Dorothy Perkins
Boots: Office

These boots were certainly not made for walking! As beautiful as they are, they hurt like like a mofo. I've had them hidden amongst my stash for years now and each I time I remember their existence and decide to slip them on, the painful memories come flying back.
It's so unfortunate though as they are an exquisite pair of boots made from such a stunning pony leather. I remember grabbing them in the Office sale for a mere £30 which was an absolute steal when they were originally £120! I've got them in a black croc version too which I have never worn
*bows head in shame*

This is as dressed up as I get these days.  Simple does it. A standard skirt and vest top combo is the most amount of effort I'm willing to make.
I'm making the most of the faux leather garments in my wardrobe whilst I still can. It's not very spring into summer is it?
On the subject of spring into summer, the great British highstreet is giving me so much life right now with their summer pieces. Particularly H&M. I'm finding that I have to physically restrain myself from buying everything I like - which is a lot!
Like I've said on numerous occasions, I have way too many clothes as it is, so I really shouldn't be adding any more to my life. I think if new purchases are to be made they have to be key staple basics that are timeless and actually quite sensible. Eeek, I sound like my mother!

OOTD| Faux Denim

Dress: Asos
Trainers: Converse via Office

I've pretty much got awkward posing down to a tee! I just don't know what to do with myself. Smile? Look moody? Attempt to smize? Hands on hip? Who knows! This style blogging thing isn't as easy as it seems! Lol.
I purchased this faux denim Asos dress last year in the sale and I'm not quite sure why I've only worn it a few times. It's a nice lightweight stretchy fabric that's perfect for Spring. I particularly love the button detail that runs through it, making it more of a casual day dress despite the tight fit.

I've been busting out the converse a lot more recently; style, comfort and ease is what I'm about these days, not to mention the fact that they seem to go with absolutely everything too.

I've been toying with the idea of changing the blog up a bit. I've got a new name in mind and I'm considering focusing on fashion and style only. What do you think?

Life| February Roundup

February was a bit 'nothingy' for me. Although I was feeling a lot more positive and had a better outlook on life, I was still in a bit of a funk and didn't really do much besides work. I'm ecstatic to finally have brighter and warmer days this month and hopefully it'll improve my mood even more.
Anyways, here are some of things I did and loved last month.

1. If you follow me on twitter, I'm sure you already know I'm a little bit obsessed with wine. I discovered a fantastic yet affordable brand of wine last month called First Cape. Although I'm usually a pinot grigio type of gal, I was drawn to their Californian White Zinfandel and consumed copious amounts of it throughout the month. Good times!
2. Naughty Naila. Need I say more? This little diva has really blossomed in the personality department. She is funny, sassy, extremely jovial and very determined. She refuses to walk - although she can - and enjoys nothing more than antagonising her big brother.
3. Despite taking pictures of myself for my blog, I actually hate pictures of me (crazy, I know!) However, I really like this picture that I took for this ootd post. I quite like the way my thighs look too!
4. Half term was last month and half term in my world means braids out, fro out. My hair is really thriving underneath the braids and has grown loads. I used my favourite deep conditioner by Vatika right before rebraiding to give it a much needed protein treatment.
5. I bought two of these in Feb. My lips love them.
6. Absolute Chambulls. This cocktail was had with the girls right before we went to see Mr Grey. The drink was brilliant; It's a shame I can't say the same thing about the film!
7. A little bit of positivity I decided to share. I had had enough of moaning and feeling melancholic so I decided to stop.
8. It was my brother's 30th on the 20th. I will never admit this to him, but he really is one of my biggest inspirations in life and I am so blessed to have him as my big brother despite his annoyances! We celebrated at Buddha Bar in Knightsbridge with his friends and of course I drank wine.
9. Payday goodies. Not that I need any more make-up, but I was in my local discount beauty store and just had to add a few more NYX goodies to my collection. The W7 nail varnishes weren't too shabby either.
In March I am looking forward to:
  • Days out with the kiddies and the Man now that the weather has improved
  • One of my bestie's birthdays
  • Mother's Day
  • Getting back into the gym and fitness (I know, I keep saying this)
  • Joy, laughter and love
XxX

OOTD| FlORAL MISHMASH

Getting my mum tum out isn't something I do very often. In fact there's only a small proportion of my tummy I am willing to have on display on the rare occasion I fancy frolicking around in a somewhat croppish top. This was one of those occasions.
After ransacking my full to the brim wardrobe and concluding I have no clothes, I remembered that this flowery crop existed. Since the sun was shining and the weather was relatively sweet, I thought it was about time it got some wear.

Jacket: Dorothy Perkins
Top:H&M
Jeans: ASOS
Trainers: Converse via Office

Another forgotten fugitive in my wardrobe is this Dorothy Perkins bomber jacket. Despite being head over heels in love with it when it was first purchased, it really hasn't been worn much at all. It makes a nice change from my H&M khaki one which I've worn to death!
I really must stop adding to my wardrobe and start wearing the things I already own. It really is ridiculous!
